I read this verse the other day in preparation for a Bible Study:
When He had turned around and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” (Mark 8:33 )
In my bible study program, I saw these cross references:
Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
…whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame who set their mind on earthly things.
This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.
Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek…
1 Peter 4:1

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Thinking through all the connections and implications, I find that to be a pretty challenging string of verses. You?
